Boozy Road Trips: Head to Taos for a Unique Beer and Wine Excursion |
(14 of 20) La Chipirada (Highway 75, Dixon, NM; 800-528-7801) is one of the area’s oldest vineyards, founded in 1977 by brothers Michael and Patrick Johnson. La Chipirada, which means “stroke of good luck” in Spanish, uses minimal filtering and sulfur in the wines and the company does its own bottling and shipping. The winery specializes in white wines like Viognier, Muscat and Seyval and also makes a popular apple wine called Embudo Blanco with local apples. The vineyards are located in the nearby town of Dixon, but there is a tasting room in downtown Taos.
