Vermouth
Over the years American bars have mistreated this fortified wine and relegated it to be nothing more than a martini additive. However, this has all begun to change in Portland. Vermouth’s renaissance has led to several successful local vermouths from Imbue and a general appreciation for cocktails that feature vermouth. Specifically, it seems like every bartender in town has their own version of the Negroni. This classic Italian cocktail relies on quality vermouth as it is simply made of equal parts vermouth, gin and bitters.
Negronis are becoming so popular that Nostrana is set to host their third annual celebration of the quintessential Italian cocktail. While this has traditionally been an industry party, this year the whole city is invited. In the week leading up to the Negroni Social, Nostrana has recruited bars and restaurants across the city and country to serve their own unique Negroni variations. Inspired by the ever-changing and ever-creative monthly Negroni at Nostrana, bartenders like David Shenaut at Raven and Rose and Jacob Carey at Dig A Pony will offer their own variations, with a dollar from each Negroni sale directly supporting Outside In’s work to move homeless youth towards health and self sufficiency.
