March Madness has arrived, with sixty-eight college basketball teams vying for the championship. While Oregon doesn’t have a team in the mix, March Madness is more about determining which teams will win their bracket. But whether you’re cheering on your alma mater, or just in it to win prizes, Portland has a few participating bars to watch the games and enter raffles. The Independent will be opening early on March 15, 16, 17, and 18. Doors open at 8:30 AM those days, with specials including $6 bloody marys and $5 mimosas before noon. Afternoon specials include $5 pints of pFriem, $6 Jim Beam Black, and $6 Sauza Hornitos margaritas. It’s only $5 to enter the betting, and prizes for the championship start with grills, and move up to private parties for twenty people, and even a two day Hood River overnight stay with rafting, dinner, hotel stay, and a pFriem Brewery tour. The Station is opening early on March 15, 17, 22 and 25, with special viewing parties on March 15, 22, and April 5, and drink specials throughout the series. The sign-up fee is $5, and the sign-up deadline is March 15 by 1 PM. Joey Harrington’s swanky Pearl District sports bar will be hosting viewing parties all month long on its many TVs, and guests who sign up by March 14 will be entered to win prizes, including a grand prize of $500 cash. Bazi Bierbrasserie
One of the city’s best Belgian beer bars, Bazi Bierbrasserie is offering specials during game days, including buckets of five DAB tallboys, a light German beer, for $12. The games will be shown on the 114″ HDTV with surround sound.
