Where to Ring in 2018 in Portland
The Liquor Store
One part cocktail bar, one part music venue, The Liquor Store will be hosting an end of the year dance party with local hip hop and dance music artists. Cover is $10 before 10 PM, and the bar will likely be filled to capacity anytime after that. (3341 SE Belmont St.; 503-754-7782)
Bailey’s Taproom
One of Portland’s best beer bars, Bailey’s Taproom is gearing up for a beer-soaked party. Modern Times, a California brewery, is moving to Portland in 2018, and will be previewing its beers at Bailey’s for NYE, taking over a dozen or so the twenty-six taps. A DJ will be spinning records, and the $5 cover fee includes a glass of complimentary bubbles (wine, not beer) at the stroke of midnight. (213 SW Broadway; 503-295-1004)
Quarterworld
Ring in the New Year to the sound of the dings and chirps of an old-school video-game arcade at Quarterworld, one of Portland’s two major “barcades”. A “Tessi Show”, music played on a Telsa Coil, starts off the night, with a live DJ dance party to follow, and champagne toast at midnight. Cover is $3. (4811 SE Hawthorne Blvd.; 503-548-2923)
La Moule
For a quiet, romantic evening out, La Moule is a great place to head for the holiday. Normally closing at midnight, the restaurant and bar will be staying open later, and will be pouring some special bubbly wines by the bottle and glass, as well as making a commemorative cocktail or two. (2500 SE Clinton St.; 971-339-2822)
Departure
The rooftop pan-Asian restaurant Departure will be serving a variety of prix fixe meals to end 2017, but those looking for more of a party should come after 11 PM. Then, the restaurant transitions into a rooftop dance party, with plenty of drinks and a champagne toast at midnight. Welcome cocktails, snacks, and the champagne toast are included with the $60 cover. (525 SW Morrison St.; 503-802-5370)
Red Star Tavern
The Hotel Monaco’s restaurant and bar, Red Star Tavern will be throwing a special speakeasy party, with guests coming throw a bookcase-door for a night of revelry. Access costs $85, but it includes cocktails all night long, as well as a buffet and champagne toast. (503 SW Alder St.; 503-222-0005)
Punch Bowl Social
Punch Bowl Social is celebrating the New Year the same way it always does: by going back to the 1980s with an 80s style dance party. Dress in your best Marty McFly or Cyndi Lauper outfit and try some punch, champagne, and games for no cover. (340 SW Morrison St.; 503-334-0360)
Stacked Sandwiches
Portland’s best new sandwich shop will be putting away the sandwiches and bringing in two of Portland’s best pop-up bar projects, Deadshot and Shipwreck, for a night of great cocktails and food. The party includes dance music, an ice-luge for shots, champagne (of course) and no cover. It runs from 8 PM until at least 1 AM. (1643 SE 3rd Ave.; 971-279-2731)
Bit House Saloon
An essential Portland destination, Bit House Saloon will be throwing a NYE party with drink specials, food specials (including $2 tacos) and a champagne toast. Bit House won’t have a cover for the party, but upstairs in the Boiler Room local DJs will be throwing a raging dance party with a sliding cover. Details for the dance party can be found here. (727 SE Grand Ave.; 503-954-3913)
The Goodfoot Pub & Lounge
Normally, Goodfoot Lounge hosts a fantastic Friday Night Soul Night Dance Party in the basement of the bar, but for New Year’s Eve, they’re moving the party to Sunday, and moving it upstairs to the large bar area. The cover is $20. (2845 SE Stark St.; 503-239-9292)
