With the weather getting colder and snowier up north, our thoughts wander to warmer climates. What could be warmer than Southern California? The South Bay destination of Redondo Beach, CA, has everything a weekend warrior could want: beer, wine, fresh seafood, and beautiful sunsets. Let’s take a drinking tour of this coastal city’s most famous location, Redondo Pier.
First, some geography. Redondo Beach is on the southern end of what is known as South Bay in Los Angeles. The area is a part of a string of sandy enclaves that stretch from LAX to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The area includes the beach cities of El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Torrance and has a history of hosting travelers seeking out the sand and sun.
The focal point of Redondo Beach is Redondo Pier, a structure that has existed in various forms for over 100 years. However, it wasn’t until the mid-90s when the old wooden pier, which had been battered by storms, was refurbished with a concrete structure that the current collection of restaurants, bars, and gift shops began to take shape. The rounded structure makes the pier a great place for a bar crawl and the nearby King Harbor Marina provides plenty of fresh seafood to pair with the following drinks.
