Where to Celebrate Halloween 2017 in Portland

The normally verdant landscape of Portland is turning red, gold, and brown, the nights are growing longer, and the winds colder. It can only mean one thing: All Hallow’s Eve is almost upon the city. As with most holidays, Portland knows how to party. Here are some great ideas for a boozy, fun Halloween season. And as usual, Drink Portland strongly encourages you to imbibe responsibly, using public transportation or ride-share if you need to travel by car. Elysian Brewing Belmont Beer Crawl and Circa 33 Speakeasy Party
Seattle brewery Elysian is organizing a beer crawl down Belmont Street, starting at Circa 33 before moving on to Barebones, The Liquor Store, The Belmont Inn, and finally Side Street. Stamp your “passport” at each location and gain access to the after party, back in the Speakeasy Room at Circa 33, with more beers, snacks, a DJ, and prizes. Saturday, October 28

Dance Parties at White Owl Social Club
Busy hipster bar and music venue White Owl Social Club is celebrating with two parties this year. Saturday, October 28 is the big one, with door prizes, drink specials, and DJ J-Free spinning records until late into the evening. The party starts at 9 PM, and cover is $10 at the door. There’s no cover on Halloween night, but there are a series of cover bands, featuring music by The Stooges, Kraftwerk, and Gary Numan. The party starts at 9 PM. (1305 SE 8th Ave.; 503-236-9672)

Day of the Dead at Baerlic Brewing
Baerlic Brewing is raising the dead the weekend before Halloween: The brewery is resurrecting beers from previous years that aren’t made any more, focusing on crowd favorites. Delorean Wheat IPA, Primeval NW Brown Ale, Banana Stand Black Hefeweizen, and more will be available, with the party starting at 6 PM and going to midnight. (2235 SE 11th. Ave.; 503-477-9418)

Halloween, Tuesday, October 31 

Horror Trivia at Home
Grab some drinks and test your knowledge with a Halloween Pub Quiz at Home, A Bar. Matt and Cat from the podcast Horror Brew will be leading a spooky-themed trivia game on all things macabre. Drink specials have yet to be announced, but there is a guarantee for mulled cider, candy, and dry ice. The event runs from 8 to 10 PM, with prizes including gift certificates to the bar. Scary-O-Ke at The Belmont Inn
Classic dive bar The Belmont Inn is hosting Scary-O-Ke, a spooky themed karaoke night on Halloween. Starting at 9 PM, grab some cheap drinks, play some pool, and sing your favorite themed karaoke song. There will probably be at least one rendition each of Thriller and The Monster Mash, but there are plenty of other options. (3357 SE Belmont Ave.; 503-232-1998)

Night of 1000 Elvises at the Elvis Room
Brand new bar The Elvis Room is hosting a Halloween costume party with a very specific theme: its namesake, Elvis Presley. Come dressed up as the King Of Rock & Roll and get $1 Rainiers, and have a chance to win in the costume contest—first place gets $100, second place gets $50, and third gets a $25 gift certificate to the bar. Legendary Portland performer John “Elvis” Schroeder will be there for photo opportunities, and there’s no cover. The party begins at 8 PM and goes until 2 AM. (203 SE Grand Ave.; 503-235-5690)
