Where to Grab a Burger and a Brew in Portland

A burger and a brew: A classic and time-honored comfort food pairing. It’s hard to think of a more classic pub meal than a burger, probably with cheese and maybe with bacon, served with a pint of cold beer. Portland has hundreds of bars and restaurants that offer both, but there are a few places that stand out. Here are seven of our favorite places. Let us know if we missed yours on our Facebook or Twitter.

California may have In-N-Out, but we have Burgerville, a local fast food chain that emphasizes Oregon ingredients. Recently,d the SE 12th and Hawthorne location has started serving bottled beers. Stop in to grab a Tillamook Cheddar burger and a bottle of Oregon IPA. (1122 SE Hawthorne Blvd.; 503-230-0479)

While mostly a cocktail bar featuring prohibition style drinks, Circa 33 also has a killer deal every Wednesday night: A burger, a pilsner, and a shot of Tullamore D.E.W., all for just $11. (3348 SE Belmont St.; 503-477-7682)
Foster Burger is one of Portland’s most popular burger destinations and for good reason. It offers a large menu of different styles of burgers, as well as fantastic fries with truffle oil and squid ink aioli. Like many places in Portland, there is also an impressive draught list. (5339 SE Foster Rd.; 503-775-2077)

Victory Bar’s menu is mostly focused on spätzle, but the venison burger, with house-made pickled veggies, is the best thing on it. Victory Bar also boasts a great tap list, as well as an impressive bottle list with some especially rare beers. (3652 SE Division St.; 503-236-8755)
Bar Bar serves as the bar for the famous Mississippi Studios, serving a menu of classic diner-style burgers, fries, and wedge salads. Grab a burger and a draught beer here before checking out your favorite local or visiting band. (3939 N Mississippi St.; 503-288-3895)

Another venue and bar, White Owl Social Club is also well known for its fantastic vegan friendly menu, including a much lauded vegan burger, made with savory beet, wakame, and hazelnut, and topped with pea shoots and carrot ribbons. There’s even a gluten-free option for it. (1305 SE 8th Ave.; 503-236-9672)

Acropolis Steakhouse
The Acropolis Steakhouse is mostly known for its dancers and incredibly cheap steak, but it also offers the largest burger in town. With a 2 lb. patty, the burger ends up weighing 5 lbs when served and is only $9. Combine that with one of the 65 beers the Acropolis has on tap for nothing short of a unique dining experience. (8325 SE McLoughlin Blvd.; 503-231-9611)
