Drink Beer for a Good Cause in Portland
Feeling a bit guilty about that hangover? These three organizations can help with that. Imbibe for a good cause with these organizations and know that your hangover could be helping nature, children or the water we drink.
The Oregon Public House (700 NE Dekum St.; 503-828-0884)
“Have a pint, change the world,” is the motto at The Oregon Public House. Since last year, the 12-tap nonprofit pub has been donating funds to select charities every time a Portlander orders a pint. The Public House covers a wide gamut of social justice, community and environmental charities and you get to choose which one to support. Check the list of charities for one you’d like to support while imbibing. On May 10 the pub will release new charities and celebrate one year of “aletruism.”
Ex Novo Brewing (2326 N. Flint Ave.)
Still under the works but chugging along, Ex Novo Brewing will open at 2326 N. Flint Ave., sometime this summer. The brewery is basically a never-ending fundraiser, creating hangovers and funds for organizations simultaneously. Proceeds from the beer we drink will benefit Mercy Corps, Friends of the Children, Impact NW, and International Justice Mission. Right now the brewery is keeping the reach to four nonprofits in order to have a bigger impact but its also open to short term fundraising and events. There’s a space in the loft that you can reserve for private events and fundraisers.
Drink ZigZag Lager by Portland Brewing in the month of July
The water from which our refreshing brews here in Portland are made, almost always get a nod from brewers as a contributor to taste, so why not help protect those waters?
This May, Portland Brewing added ZigZag River Lager to its year-round offering. A portion of proceeds from purchases of ZigZag River Lager during Oregon Craft Beer Month in July will benefit The Sandy River Basin Watershed Council. The watershed council is a partnership of individuals and organizations who work cooperatively to improve the health of the watershed for fish, wildlife and people.
