Warm Up at These Portland Bars with Fireplaces

by Alexander Frane on Nov 29, 2016 in Roundups

Even though it’s still technically fall, it sure feels like winter has fully arrived in Portland. The days seem to last no time at all, the rain has returned in earnest, and it seems like we’re in for an especially blustery season. There’s really only one solution: curling up next to a fireplace with a stiff drink that will drive the cold from your bones. If, however, you don’t have a fireplace at home, here are ten bars that can provide. Let us know where your favorite fireplace bar is at our Facebook or Twitter.

Multnomah Whisk{e}y Library
Arguably Portland’s best whiskey bar, The Whisk{e}y Library is decked out in style and comfort. Sit in one of the luxurious tufted leather sits and nurse a fine scotch while enjoying a roaring blaze in the fireplace. (1124 SW Alder St.; 503-954-1381)

Lucky Devil Lounge
Lucky Devil Lounge is unique for strip clubs, and not just because it hosts legal poker games every night of the week (get used to chips being flung to the stage; it’s expected, not rude). It’s also special for its indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit, the latter of which makes the patio a winter friendly spot. (633 SE Powell Blvd.; 503-206-7350)

Doug Fir Lounge
One of the most popular venues in town, The Doug Fir also features a bar and restaurant on the main floor. In the back room of this wood cabin inspired bar is a small private room with beaded curtains and a nice fireplace. (830 E Burnside St.; 503-231-9663)

Ringside Grill
It’s a bit of a jaunt for some, but the Ringside Grill at Glendoveer Golf Course is worth the trip. Find the same fine cuisine as at the iconic Ringside Steakhouse, but at a more casual setting, complete with indoor firepits. (14021 NE Glisan St.; 503-255-0750)

The Sapphire Hotel
Famously one of the most romantic date spots in the city, the Sapphire Hotel has been around for decades. The cozy and intimate interior is even more romantic in the winter, when you can cuddle up next to the wood fired stoves. (5008 SE Hawthorne Blvd.; 503-232-6333)

Claudia’s Sports Pub
Claudia’s Sports Pub is an institution in Portland, but one that goes mostly unnoticed except by the regulars who have been visiting it for decades. Claudia’s has over 20 satellite streams on high-def TVs throughout the bar, pool, wifi, and, of course, a fireplace. You’d be hardpressed to find a better sports bar. (3006 SE Hawthorne Blvd.; 503-232-1744)

The Rookery
Upstairs from Raven and Rose you will find The Rookery, one of Portland’s best and classiest cocktail joints. Here you can find an extensive list of spirits and drinks, high-end pool tables, and a fireplace. While you’re here, be sure to grab one of the excellent hot drinks on the menu, perfect for fireside imbibing. (1331 SW Broadway; 503-222-7673)

The Jack Knife
Jack Knife is the fanciest franchise of the Lightning Bar Collection. The elegant space includes a long marble bar top, vintage lighting, and not one, but two, fireplaces to keep you warm throughout the winter. (614 SW 11th Ave.; 503-384-2347)

The Fireside
It’s more of a restaurant than a bar, but we would be remiss if we omitted a place that boasts its fireplace in its name. The Fireside has dual fireplaces, and its menu is inspired by meals you would have by a campfire. (801 NW 23rd Ave.; 503-477-9505)

Rontom’s
Rontom’s is mostly famous for its expansive patio, which doubles as a music venue in the summer months, but its interior is just as nice. Chic mid-century furniture fills the room, the center is a venue, and there’s a large fireplace. (600 E Burnside St.; 503-236-4536)
