Best Bars for Wings in Washington, D.C.

Chicken wings are one of those ubiquitous bar foods you can take you for granted — until you're really craving a spicy, saucy complement to your game-long drink fest. From vegan-friendly "wings" to a gourmet variety, we've rounded up the best bars in D.C. for your next chicken wing fix just in time Super Bowl XLVIII.

Duffy’s: This U Street dive consistently wins the Washington City Paper’s Reader’s Poll for city’s best wings. Dry-rubbed and charbroiled, the five-time award-winning wings are available eight for $8.95 or 24 for $23.95. With 12 flat screen TVs, the Irish pub is also an ideal spot to catch the game (2106 Vermont Ave.; 202-265-3413).

ChurchKey: Nobody does bar food quite like the 14th Street beer mecca, where wings are available with your choice of buffalo, Asian or jerk sauce. Add disco fries (cheddar cheese and sausage gravy) or mac 'n' cheese sticks (garlic breadcrumbs, delicious) to pair with one of the joint’s 555 beers and you’ve got a game-worthy feast (1337 14th St. NW; 202-567-2576).

Black Rooster Pub: Wings are just half-price on Wednesday nights at this “Cheers”-like local pub, which also boasts its own darts league. There are four different ways to enjoy Wednesday’s $4 wings: traditional, barbecue, tequila-lime sauce or seasame-teriyaki (1919 L St. NW; 202-569-4431).

Buffalo Billiards: Tuesday’s “Yueng-Wing” special is reason enough to frequent this Dupont sports bar for your wing fix — 30 wings are just $15 (and 10 are just $5), available in traditional, barbecue or “naked.”  Yuengling drafts are $4 (1330 19th St. NW; 202-331-7665).

Smoke & Barrel: This barbecue spot’s signature chipotle honey butter sauce is what sets apart the smoked and brined wings, which complement the ever-changing selection of 24 draft beers. Vegan “wings” — available “wet, dry or muddy” — are also an option for the hipster set (2471 18th St. NW; 202-319-9353).

Smith Commons: Foodies can still indulge in the bar menu staple at this H Street public house, where the confit chicken wings are dressed in apple chili glaze and gorgonzola. Wash them down with a local craft brew (1245 H St. NE; 202-396-0038).
