4 Places to Enjoy Wine Before a Theater Production
One pairing that doesn’t need instruction from an expert is the combination of wine and theater. While you can probably find wine anywhere with an “Open” sign and an OLCC license, we’ve come up with a list of spots within close proximity to theater houses in Portland. Check them out, and let us know, did we include your favorite place for a pre-show soirée?
Coppia: Formerly Vino Paradiso, Coppia means “couple” or “pairing” in Italian, and they handily do just with their wide selection of Italian vintages and accompanying eats. The best part is the location, just a few blocks around the corner from Portland Center Stage (417 NW 10th Ave.; 503-295-9536).
The Driftwood Room: Sip on a rich red under the dim, sultry lighting at this Hotel deLuxe lounge before a performance at the Artist Repertory Theatre. Not in the mood for vino? The retro-inspired bar offers both classic and inventive cocktails in addition to wine (729 SW 15th Ave.; 503-219-2094).
M Bar: Before a production at the CoHo, and especially if you’re on a date, catch happy hour in the alphabet district at the cozy M Bar. The menu is small, but selected with care. (417 NW 21st Ave.; 503-228-6614).
Bar Mingo 9: Originally meant as a space for patrons waiting for tables at Caffe Mingo, Bar Mingo has flourished, and offers colorful and fresh small plates perfect for sharing. The $6 happy hour from 4–6 PM offers fare such as Manila clams or calamari, and of course, an expansive wine list (811 NW 21st Ave.; 503-445-4646).
