Preview Bandolero Tasting Menu with Cocktail Pairings at Tackle Box, April 19-May 5

There’s been much anticipation around Mike Isabella’s second solo venture in the District. After the Top Chef alum left his head chef post at Zaytinya to open Graffiato in Penn Quarter, Washingtonians had only just begun buzzing about the restaurant’s Prosecco on tap when news came that the toque had plans to open a second spot — the taco (and margarita)-themed Bandolero — in the heart of busy Georgetown.

Now that Isabella has announced yet two more eateries on the horizon (Kapnos and G), area foodies are craving a taste of something new. Though construction delays mean there’s no open date yet for Bandolero, you’ll soon have a chance to preview the goods during a two-week takeover of Tackle Box in Cleveland Park from April 19–May 5.

We first got a taste of Bandolero’s cocktail offerings at a preview of the Sugar & Champagne Affair, at which mixologist Sam Babcock whipped up sips of the City of Gold, featuring Milagro Reposado tequila, St. Germain, lemon juice, Cardamaro and a five-spice simple syrup.

For the takeover, Isabella will be offering a five-course tasting menu (including tacos, enchiladas and other Mexican fare) for which Babcock will offer a cocktail pairing along with á la carte libations such as the Prickly Pear Margarita. From 5–7 PM on the event’s culminating night — Cinco de Mayo — the bar will offer samples of Bandolero’s signature margarita: Espolon Blanco, Patron Citronage, lime and blood orange.

One of the first big name chefs to partner with City Eats, Isabella is offering reservations for select dates (April 19–May 4, Tuesday–Saturday) through the new Open Table competitor. On these nights the tasting menu is available for $65, inclusive of tax and gratuity. Reservations are not required for Saturday, May 5, when food and drinks will be sold á la carte.
