Portland's Cheers to Belgian Beers, April 21
For the sixth year running, Portlanders will have a chance to sample nearly 50 completely new, innovative takes on the Belgian beer style, as local breweries compete for the honor of being named “People’s Choice Winner” at this Oregon Brewers Guild event.
Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers (also known by its ever-so-catchy acronym, PCTBB) runs noon–9 PM on Saturday, April 21 at the home of tank-builders Metalcraft Fabrication in the Northeast quadrant, and admission (21+) is free. If you happen to want to sample the brew while you’re there (ahem), pony up $15 to score a commemorative stemmed tasting glass and five drink tickets. Additional drink tickets are $1 each, and all tickets are available at the door.
Even though the participating breweries will be using one of just two yeasts — selected by last year’s co-winners Hopworks Urban Brewery and Logsdon Farmhouse Ales — expect to sample a wide variety of brews: one of the goals of the all-day fest is to highlight the myriad of different flavors and profiles that fall under the category of Belgian-style. Also expect high alcohol content, as is characteristic of the genre, so don’t forget to cast your vote after you’ve sipped, to help determine this year’s winner.
