Weekend Picks, St. Patrick's Day Edition, 3/15-3/18

Thursday, March 15

Artini Feature Night

What: Preview The Gibson’s Artini entry before the March 31 event
Where: The Gibson (2009 14th St. NW)
When: 6:30–8:30 PM, Thursday, March 15
Price: PAYG

The Gibson’s cocktails are already works of art, so with the added challenge of actual aesthetic interpretation they’re bound to be masterpieces. Each year The Corcoran’s 1869 society hosts Artini, a cocktail fundraiser for which 12 area mixologists compete with libations inspired by famous works housed in the gallery. Stay ahead of the curve and preview The Gibson’s creation tonight, when 20% of proceeds benefit ArtReach.

Friday, March 16

Port City Beer Brewing Company Beer Tasting

What: Local craft beer tasting
Where: The Butcher’s Block Market at BRABO (1600 King St., Alexandria)
When: 6–8 PM, Friday, March 16
Price: Free

Port City Brewing Company has only been open since January 2011, but in that year the Alexandria brewery has quickly become a favorite producer of local brews. This is your chance to taste Tartan, the new seasonal pour, as well as classics such as Port City Optimal Wit, Essential Pale Ale, Porter and Monumental India Pale.

Saturday, March 17

St. Patrick’s Day Party

What: A classier-than-usual ode to Ireland
Where: Againn (1099 New York Ave. NW)
When: Noon–midnight, Saturday, March 17
Price: $10 tickets

Drunken beer fests abound on St. Paddy’s day, but rare is the party that includes your own Scotch locker (if you’re a baller like that). For a celebration above the fray, reserve your own booth at this Penn Quarter gastropub ($100 for two people includes entry fee, two pints of Guinness or Smithwick’s and an appetizer) and enjoy $5 Guinness, Smithwick’s and car bombs, $6 shots of Bushmills and $3 green Jello shooters.

Sunday, March 18

Rooftop Brunch at Tabaq

What: Rooftop brunch with flavored mimosas
Where: Tabaq Bistro (1336 U St. NW)
When: Sunday, March 19, 10 AM -- 4 PM
Price: PAYG

Another sunny Sunday is expected this weekend — take advantage and enjoy brunch al fresco on one of the most beloved rooftops in the city. On warm days, the glass ceiling above this U Street eatery retracts to reveal 360-degree views of the district. In addition to the standard cheap mimosas and Bloody Mary’s ($3) you’ll find a selection of bubbly brunch cocktails in unexpected flavors.
