Where to Watch the 90th Academy Awards in Portland

The 2018 Academy Awards are almost here, with some seriously good indie films leading the pack. There’s no better way to watch the Oscars than dressed up, out at a bar with your friends where you can cheer with the crowd when your choice wins Best Supporting Actor. To that end, here are five places to watch Lady Bird and Get Out sweep every category (we wish). Where will you be pounding tequila shots if Boss Baby wins over Coco for Best Animated Picture? Let us know at our Facebook or Twitter.

East Burn is kicking the festivities off with an Oscars themed trivia game—while the focus will be on the 2018 Academy Awards, all eras will be “fair game”. The trivia game starts at 3:30, with the Academy Awards starting at 5 PM. Costumes are strongly encouraged, and Eat Burn is running its usual Sunday night special of a burger and beer for $12. (1800 E Burnside St.; 503-236-2876)

McMenamins’ Mission Theater and Pub is throwing an Oscars party hosted by Portland’s own Poison Waters, one of the most famous drag performers in town. There will also be a costume contest, and minors are permitted if accompanied by a guardian. (1624 NW Glisan St.; 503-223-4527)

Carmella’s Lounge, a casual riverfront wine bar and restaurant, is throwing its annual Oscars viewing party. Expect some special glasses of bubbly, professional photography, and a ballot contest, where guests who most accurately predict the Oscar winners will be winners themselves. (1320 SE Water Ave.; 503-232-1633)

One of the city’s best casual gay bars, Crush is throwing a red carpet party for the Oscars, complete with happy hour, prizes, and a photobooth. The ceremony will be shown on the bar’s sixteen-foot projection screen, and the red carpet gets rolled out at 4 PM. (1400 SE Morrison St.; 503-235-8150)

The Academy Awards 2018 happens to fall on one of Shift Drinks’ Sunday Suppers, when the kitchen cooks up a complimentary meal for whoever comes in. Chef Anne is making baked kibbeh (a Levantine dish of bulgur, minced onions, and fine ground meat) and Greek Salad, and the award show will be screened in the Baller Room. (1200 SW Morrison St.; 503-922-3933)
