Bar Hop on Mississippi Avenue for Happy Hour
Interurban
Gastropub Interurban offers happy hour from 3 to 6 PM during the week, and from 10 to midnight on Sunday evenings. At those hours you can find Chef Jonny Henry’s rustic bar food in snack form, like mini corndogs & fries for $5, a chili & cheese quesadilla for $6, and grilled broccolini for $6, among others. Red, white, rosé, and sparkling wine are $5, as are a variety of cocktails, like a kir royale and whiskey ginger. Select beers are sold for $2 for 10 ounces and $4 for 20, and Irish whiskeys are available at a reduced price, including a $3 per ounce Jameson and a $6 per ounce 12 Year Redbreast. The Rambler
The Rambler is a casual, welcoming bar serving American pub grub and cocktails. For happy hour, which is available 4 to 6 PM Tuesday through Friday and all day on Monday, find $6 cocktail specials, like margaritas and old-fashioneds, as well food specials, like poutine ($6) , chicken strips ($6), fried brussel sprouts ($4) and spicy buffalo drumsticks ($1 each, minimum four). In addition, beers, signature cocktails, and well drinks are all $1 off, for a wide variety of options. (4205 N Mississippi Ave.; 459-4049)
Quaintrelle
Relatively new to the city, Quaintrelle exemplifies Northwest farm to table cuisine, and boasts a strong European focused wine list, as well as a creative cocktail menu crafted by bar maven Camille Cavan. During happy hour from 5 to 6:30 PM daily you can sample the menu, with bites between $3 and $8, house G&Ts and punch for $6, and a cocktail of the day for $8. There’s also a selection of glass pours for $6 each, and beer is all $1 off. The seasonal focus at Quaintrelle means that the menu is subject to change, but you’ll generally see something similar to this for happy hour. (3936 N Mississippi Ave.; 503-200-5787)
¿Por Qué No?
The popular Portland taco shop has two locations in the city, one of which sits on Mississippi Ave. While it might not be the most obvious choice for happy hour, the one from 3 to 6 PM daily (and all day on Taco Tuesday!) is worth checking out. All tacos are 50 cents off, and the Brian’s Bowl, chips and salsa, and rice and beans are all $1 cheaper. All rum based drinks are $1 off, and margaritas are a solid $1.50 off. Lines can get long, especially on Tuesday, so you’ll want to get there early. Luckily you can skip the line for refills on drinks. (3524 N Mississippi Ave.; 503-467-4149)
Sidecar
Sidecar is a swanky cocktail bar with an extensive happy hour list. From 4 to 7 PM each day of the week, and all day on Monday, cocktails, manhattans, beer, and wines by the glass are all $1 cheaper. A smaller food menu is offered, with all dishes $5.50, including mini mac and cheese, hazelnuts, legs of chicken, and more. The happy hour food menu (not drinks) is also offered again at 9 PM to close. (3955 N Mississippi Ave.; 503-208-3798)
