Astrophysicist, writer, and television personality Neil DeGrasse Tyson boasts almost 20 honorary degrees and a host of awards, including an Isaac Asimov Award from the American Humanist Association and 2000’s Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive from People Magazine. But now the beloved scientist bears an even greater honor: Neil DeGrasse Tyson has a beer made for him.
Asheville Brewing Company out of Asheville, North Carolina released the adorably named
Bier LemonGrass Tyson on Tuesday, June 13 in honor of the scientist, who was visiting the town to speak at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium that day.
Described in a press release as a Belgian wit style made with lemongrass, sweet orange peel, coriander, and dry-hopped with, appropriately, Galaxy Hops, it was made with Tyson’s preferences in mind; in interviews, he has stated that he is a fan of Belgian and weissbeers. The ale has a 5.5% ABV, and will only be available in Asheville, so swing by the Asheville Brewing Company for a pint if you’re in town. A dollar from each pint sold goes to the
Asheville Museum of Science, and maybe, if you’re lucky, Neil DeGrasse Tyson himself will be hanging around and enjoying a brew.
