Plenty of celebrities are releasing wine these days, and Eric Wareheim, famous for both Master of None and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, is releasing his own wine, according to a feature in GQ.
After a year or so in which Wareheim posted photo after photo of wine on his Instagram and referred to each one as “piss,” this news may seem surprising, but in recent years, Wareheim has developed a deep knowledge of and respect for the wine world, making him the perfect celebrity to get into the trade.
After his early success on
Tim and Eric, Wareheim moved from Colt 45 and whiskey to fine wines, thanks in part to friendships with both Bay area winemaker
Joel Burt and
Master of None showrunner
Aziz Ansari, who is known throughout Hollywood as an avid food and wine buff. Through plotlines where Wareheim and Ansari traveled across Italy, eating and drinking to their heart’s content, Wareheim had the opportunity to learn more about fine wine and understand exactly what he was drinking — and once they were done shooting in Italy, they returned to the States and frequented (and filmed at) bars like
The Four Horsemen, which is owned by a friend of Ansari.
Ultimately, for his wine, Wareheim is partnering with Burt for a venture called Las Jaras Wines, focusing on natural wines and small vineyards. The first wine from Las Jaras will be a rosé named “Sweet Berry Wine,” a reference for Tim and Eric diehards, but it looks like we’ll be able to expect much more from this partnership between Burt and Wareheim.
