Where to Drink With Your Dog in Portland
Portland is one of the most dog-friendly and dog populated cities in the US. We have more dog parks per capita than any other city, so you can always take your dog out to play, but sometimes you want to play. Luckily, Portland bars understand, and many have set up dog-friendly patios for your pooch. Some even go the extra mile and provide food and entertainment for your dog. Here are our picks for the best dog bars in Portland. Where is your favorite part to take your best friend? Let us know on our Facebook or Twitter.
Lucky Lab
The iconic Portland dog bar, the Lucky Lab has a few locations throughout the city. Here, your dog is more than welcome, though they are asked to stay out on the patio. Even if you don’t have a dog, you can always find some friendly pooches to visit with when you go, especially in the summer months. (Multiple Locations)
Velo Cult
Portland may be dog friendly, but it’s also often rainy and gray. If you don’t want to sit out on a patio with your pooch, you can always head to Velo Cult. This bike shop and tap house (the most Portland combination ever) encourages you to bring your dog in from the rain while you enjoy a local beer or three. (1969 NE 42nd Ave.; 503-922-2012)
The Knock Back
The Alberta Arts district has a large dog population, with plenty of pet stores and dog friendly bars. Our favorite is The Knock Back — with its covered, heated patio you can bring your dog here year round and hang out with Fido while you enjoy one of their excellent Boiler Makers. (2315 NE Alberta St.; 503-284-4090)
Rambler Bar
The Rambler Bar loves dogs, which is good, because the Mississippi area is another dog packed neighborhood. Dogs can sit out at the mini-patio in front or the large back patio, which is easily accessible without having to bring your furry friend through the bar. (4205 N Mississippi St.; 503-459-4049)
White Owl Social Club
White Owl has one of the largest patios in town and a special dog-door so you can bring your pup in easily. If that was it, it would be enough, but the bar also features a “Yappy Hour” (we know, super cute) every Wednesday, with specials for dog parents and treats for the dogs. White Owl even brings in dogs from shelters for a day out and possible adoption. (1305 SE 8th Ave.; 503-503-236-9672)
Sniff Dog Hotel
Rather than a bar that allows dogs, this is a dog hotel that has a bar in it. During happy hour, 5 PM - 7 PM during the week, doggy playtime is free. Tuesdays and Thursdays are reserved for small dog play time, so you can bring your mini Aussie in to play with other similarly sized pups. (1828 NW Raleigh St.; 503-208-2366)
The Station
This sports bar in the Alberta Arts district, like The Knock Back, is very dog-friendly. They love your dog so much so that they provide complimentary doggy bandanas, dog treats, a dog menu, and even doggy bags to pick up after your pup in case of any business they attend to. (2703 NE Alberta St.; 503-284-4491)
Prost!
Along with boasting one of the best beer lists in town (mostly German biers), Prost! has one of the best patios, especially because of the outside bar; it has a limited tap list compared to the one inside, but it means you don’t have to leave your doggy for even a minute to get a new brew. (4237 N Mississippi St.; 503-954-2674)
Tin Shed Garden Cafe
The Tin Shed isn’t a bar, it’s a popular restaurant, especially for brunch, which is served every day of the week. It does have a full bar, and, more importantly, a doggy menu. For only $8 you can get your dog a bandana, and if they wear it when they come in, items on the dog menu are ½ off. The proceeds for the bandanas go to Odd Man Inn Animal Charity. (1438 NE Alberta St.; 503-288-6966)
