Target, the American retail company known to goad impulse purchases with seductive buy-one-get-one deals, will soon allow customers to go on a different kind of bender.
A new Chicago store, slated to open this October, has applied for not one but two liquor licenses—one to sell packaged booze on its shelves and the other to serve beer, wine, and spirits from a bar inside the 24,000-square-foot space.
If given approval, the new Windy City location will be the only Target store to serve alcohol on-site. There’s still no word on whether the initiative will go nationwide—or whether they’ll be serving themed drinks to match the logo (think red wine sangria or bullseye cocktails). We’ll just have to wait and see what happens as the superstore tests the waters.
Taking a break from your shopping spree to indulge in a drink (or three) sounds like a win-win situation for the franchise and its customers. But the new boozy concept will surely get customers to expect more, and also pay more. Not to mention, impaired shopping could lead to some
highly questionable purchases, just in time for the holidays.
