4 Bars & Events to Take Dad to in Portland on Father's Day
Shout out to the fathers who don’t work in an office, and don’t care about sports, golf or cars. You make the task of gift-giving nearly impossible. The good news is that it gets easier with age. Having a drink with Dad is a perfectly acceptable way to spend Father’s Day. If your Dad doesn’t drunk then, eh, maybe head to Brookstone for a hilarious oversized remote control?
Father’s Day Brunch at EastBurn (1800 E Burnside St.; 503-236-2876)
If your pops isn’t a bruncher, lure him to EastBurn in the Buckman neighborhood for a manly brunch with dishes like biscuits and elk gravy, thick cut smoked pork chop with poached eggs and bearnaise, and a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar and $2 mimosas. Cue the Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor grunting.
Father’s Day Brewgrass and BBQ at Portland Brewing (2730 NW 31st Ave.; 503-228-5269)
Hang out with your father AND support Pints for Prostates. It’s also the end of PDX Beer Week, so Portland Brewing is throwing a bluegrass bash. There’ll be BBQ specials all day, and kids eat free. Also enjoy special pricing on growlers and pints when you buy Pints for Prostates raffle tickets. Fill your ears with live bluegrass from 1- 4 PM.
Portland Beer Week
Dad will really know how much you appreciate him if you celebrate all week long at events for PDX beer week. If you’re just taking the one-day celebration route (quitter) during PDX Beer Week, head to Burnside Brewing Co. for the Portland Beer and Cheese Festival starting at 12 PM.
The Modern Man Barber Shop
A straight edge shave and some whiskey seem manly, right? Head to one of three Modern Man locations (Hawthorne, Alberta, Mississippi) and treat your father to services and spirits the right way. Just don’t be surprised if you hear some grumbling and harping about how “it used to be done this way” and “kids these days love old shit,” but by the end he’ll love it.
Bottles (5015 NE Fremont St.; 503-287-7022)
Bottles, the beer shop located on NE Fremont Street and 50th Avenue not only has beer on tap and a large selection of bottled beer and a patio, they’ve got mouth watering barbecue. You’ll see the smoker as you enter through the front door, working it’s magic like a grill on your friend’s front porch. Try the pork sliders made with Bottles’ own Carolina-style sauce.
