Whether you filled out your NCAA bracket based on cuteness of mascot and color of jersey or an advanced mathematical equation, Portland’s celebrating March Madness around town. Root for the Ducks or your other favorite team at these area bars.
Migration Brewing (2828 NE Glisan St.; 503- 206-5221)
Migration’s new expansion in January added additional space for catching not only the Trail Blazers but college hoops too. The Buckman neighborhood brewery suggests grabbing one of its new brews: The Life O’Rye-ly IPA or the PDX Kolsch. Life of O’Rye-ly is a seasonal IPA with Simcoe hops and citrus aromatics. The Kolch is made from two hop varieties and has a lemony finish. No matter how deep into March Madness the Ducks travel, you can watch a game at Migration.
Greeley Avenue Bar & Grill (5421 N. Greeley Ave.; 503- 283-0676)
The North Overlook neighborhood bar, Yorgo’s (home of the twice daily happy hour) is getting in on the NCAA action. They’ve got a huge screen and a ton of smaller television sets so you can cheer on whichever team you’re supporting this year. Go in early before an afternoon game and score one of the cheapest breakfasts in the city.
Spirit of 77 (500 NE Martin Luther King Blvd.; 503- 232-9977)
Spirit of 77, located in the Lloyd District, is a staple in the Trail Blazer basketball scene. Check the trendy sports bar’s website for an updated television schedule. If you plan it out right, you could spend an entire day chowing down meatball heros and fried chicken sandwiches and watching basketball on the bar’s bigger-than-life projection screen.
EastBurn (1800 E Burnside St.; 503- 236-2876)
Trying to watch one of the games but have someone in tow that needs convincing? EastBurn now serves lunch from 11 AM – 3 PM and your not-so-sporty pal will appreciate polished bar food like the Über sandwich made from pork medallion, potato pancake, scallion sour cream, caramelized onion, and bourbon-apple chutney.
Most places around Portland that show Trail Blazers games will show NCAA tournament action. Who knows, maybe some of the young guns we’re watching now will become Blazers. Find a new favorite sports bar from our list of 10 Bars in Portland to Watch the Trail Blazers.
