Kopstootje refers to the Dutch tradition of a shot glass of genever (the grandfather of gin), paired with a lager. The word translates to “little headbutt,” and it is a great drinking experience. Portlanders can get the experience of Amsterdam right at home on Monday at Hop & Vine. For the third year running, Upright Brewing has created a special beer to play the part of the lager in the combo — it’s brewed with the same botanicals used to make Bols Genever and is mean to complement the bracing spirit.

Head to the North Portland bar and bottleshop at 6 PM on Monday, March 11, to get a deal on the tasty combo. The first 40 people through the door will score a 12-oz. pour of the beer plus a 1¼-oz. mini flute of the genever for just $5 total. After that the duo will run $7 a pop, which is still a great deal. You can also pony up an extra $2 to try the barrel-aged Bols Genever as the spirit half of the pairing. Kopstootje!
