Cheese and Cocktails: An Unlikely Pairing Success Story |
4) Sazarac and Brescianella Aquavite
The next cocktail I prepared was a Sazarac featuring Vieux Carre Superieure (the absinthe provides just a hint of herbal licorice flavor to the strong New Orleans favorite). To complement the booziness of the drink, Rocco picked Brescianella Aquavite, which is a cow's milk cheese soaked in aquavit brandy. The cheese was dotted with rye seeds to echo the nuttiness of the rye whiskey and it was all wrapped a delicious salami. The flavors all worked well together and the rich meat helped smooth everything into an overall warm and spicy taste. The rye seeds added an extra fun texture to the nibble.
