Lucky Horseshoe Lounge is Clinton's New Favorite Neighborhood Bar

The space on the southwestern corner of SE 26th and Clinton has seen a variety of establishments. Competition is stiff, with Dot’s Cafe across the street and the Clinton Street Pub around the corner. Last it was the Clinton Street Theater’s own bar, The Workshop Brewpub. Now the theater has its own internal bar, and the space is home to Lucky Horseshoe Lounge.

As Division to the north continues to expand and accommodate pricey high-rise condominiums, there’s a legitimate concern that the prices at the surrounding establishments will rise to meet the increased demand and affluence of the neighborhood. Luckily, Clinton, only a few blocks to the south, seems immune to this gentrification, and Lucky Horseshoe is an indication of this as a comfortable, affordable and gimmick-free watering-hole.

The menu does offer some cocktails, including $9 variations on a Manhattan and a Sazerac, and even a $10 Aviation. The cocktails are certainly palatable and reasonably priced, but that’s not what makes Lucky Horseshoe a destination. It’s the $4 price point for a pint of beer ($3 during happy hour), a generously poured glass of wine ($3 on Wine Wednesdays) or a well drink. It’s the basic bar food, including tater tot nachos (totchos), panini, Goldfish Crackers and deviled eggs. And it’s the refreshingly casual atmosphere and friendly staff.

Lucky Horseshoe Lounge, with its rustic pub aesthetic, is the complete opposite of the ubiquitous ‘industrial-chic’ cocktail bar that has been popping up all over the city. It’s just a nice place to spend an evening on a sidewalk bench seat with a pint or a glass of wine. It hasn’t seen great crowds yet, and only time will tell if it will be able to compete with its nearby competition, but for now it’s a great addition to the neighborhood.

Lucky Horseshoe is open Monday–Thursday, 4 PM–1 AM, Friday, 4 PM–2 AM, Saturday, 11 AM–2 AM and Sunday 11 AM–1 AM. Happy hour runs from 4–6 PM, daily.
