Bars in Portland Kicking Up FIFA World Cup Soccer Action

Few sporting events can generate the same amount of excitement that buzzes around the globe every four years in the run-up to World Cup Soccer, or FIFA World Cup as the rest of the world calls it. Just the same, few sports can parlay that sense of exhilaration from the field to TV, which makes watching World Cup matches at a bar equally as fun as in person. This year, the tournament kicks off on Thurs., June 12 and run through Sun., July 13. Here we present Portland's best bars for watching the games. Know of a place we missed? Give us a shout on Facebook or Twitter and let us know.

World Cup Beer Garden (625 NW 21st, Portland, Oregon 97209: 202-744-1496)
The World Cup demands respect, pride, and booze. What better way to deliver all of these and more than to build a 200-seat beer garden right on NW 21st Street? Alex Mackay has brought you an epic pop-up beer garden, at which you can watch each and every match while you drink local craft beer, cocktails, and feast on delicious bites while watching the matches on one of at least 10 big screen TVs.

Kell's Irish Bar (112 S.W. Second Ave.: 503-227-4057)
This Irish bar is ready and waiting for you to arrive with extra televisions and traditional pub fare. Should your country win, you will even be able to grab a victory cigar.

442 Soccer Bar (1739 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd., 503-238-3693)
Join the crowd at 442 Soccer bar to get your serious fandom on. This bar carries the energy and enthusiasm needed to host a memorable World Cup experience. They will show every game, every day, and get you celebrating in every way.

Mad Greek Deli (1740 E. Burnside St., 503-232-0274)
Although the home squad may differ from yours, this Greek taverna is going to be a great spot to watch all of the matches in this year’s World Cup. As an official Portland Timbers pub, you can expect a true soccer atmosphere.

Rose City Futsal (5010 N.E. Oregon St., 503-734-2382)
The expansive Portland sports complex will be hosting an enthusiastic local crowd at their in-house Clive’s public house bar for every single World Cup match on their 7 TVs and 20’ display.

The Fifth Quadrant (3901 N Williams Ave, 503-288-3996)
You love soccer and Lompoc brewery? Perfect. 5Q will be showing all of the World Cup matches and serving up your favorite beers.

Slim's (8635 N. Lombard Ave., 503-286-3854)
You are three hours behind the East Coast, and you’re concerned about your pre-game buzz, well, fret no more. Slim’s will be opening at 4:15am everyday until the World Cup is over, and they will be serving alcohol starting at 7am.

Prost! (4237 N. Mississippi Ave., 503-954-2674)
Get your frill of German bier at Prost! German bier bar. They will be showing every game, although you may find yourself meeting opposition on June 26th when the Yanks fight the die Mannschaft.
